There is a local custom of calling March "Hate Month" and after the incredible wind, rain, and cold storms this weekend I can understand. I think March is really a month of transition: some good days, some horrible days. Daylight savings time gives us later sunsets, flower buds peeking through, daffodils sprouting their sunny faces, all reminding me that the long winter is almost in the rear-view mirror.
Not much can be said about these stats except they reflect the low inventory level. Demand is still high. Property values continue to increase. First in wins the prize, in this case, fulfillment of the homeownership on Nantucket.
NANTUCKET BITS & PIECES
It's March, it's Women's History and Nantucket boasts an extensive history of strong, innovative, and empowered women. Mary Starbuck introduced Quakerism to the island, Maria Mitchell was the first woman astronomer, Lucretia Mott was an abolitionist and part of the women's suffrage movement. The list goes on. Two significant twentieth-century pioneers deserve recognition: Aletha Macy, wood carver, and Nancy Chase, scrimshander extraordinaire. Centre Street has long been nicknamed Petticoat Row since it was dominated by shops and businesses owned and operated by women.
