READY TO VISIT NANTUCKET

Nantucket is the place for all seasons. Each time of the year offers a different perspective and all are glorious.

SPRING

Spring, a time of re-awakening and anticipation. Color it green and yellow and pink. Activity is abundant. Landscapers organizing spring wake-up for their clients' property, painters touching up and homeowners getting a start on things that need to be done to get ready for summer. Daffodils poke their sunny faces out into the world; the community gets ready for Daffodil Weekend in April (more on that next month).

SUMMER

Summer, a time with warm gentle breezes, abundant sunshine, a plentiful array of color. Think rainbow: green lawns, numerous pinks, blue, purple hydrangeas, red, white and pink roses, and of course the orangey pink sunrises and sunsets. So much to do: with over 80 miles of beach, there is a beach for everyone, fish, play tennis and eat at one of the terrific restaurants. Participate in island activities: July 4th, Boston Pops benefitting Nantucket Cottage Hospital and many more non profit events.

FALL

Fall, a time of reflection, a time to slow down. Days get shorter, businesses close a bit earlier, there are fewer people on-island. Schools are back in session. The wind gets crisper, the winds may shift from southwest to northeast. Foliage turns, cranberries harvest, workers get homes ready for winter.

WINTER

Winter, a time of merriment, serenity and cold. Color it gray. Beginning the day after Thanksgiving with the Christmas tree lighting, the NHA Festival of Wreaths and Festival of Trees the holiday season comes in full force. And then comes January, raw winds, strong winds, boat cancellations, maybe snow...this is a time for hunkering down. Stay indoors, read good books, try out new recipes and if there is a really good day take a long beach walk. If this sounds solitary, it isn't. For the interested there are Nantucket Atheneum events, numerous book clubs, knitting groups and just plain friendship.

So, you see there is some time for everyone and all times for many.

NANTUCKET BITS & PIECES

Attention homeowners. A good thing to do for yourself prior to the season is to create a detailed inventory of the items in your home: furnishings, artwork, linens, kitchen equipment, accessories, outdoor living items. Include the following if possible: item description, when purchased and the price, make, model and serial number for appliances. Photography or video this list and keep with all your important documents. It will be very useful should there be any rental issues- but even more important-keeping track is for insurance purposes.
