The first quarter has passed, and the weather is beginning to seem a bit more mellow, with sunny warmish days and miserable rainy days - but that's April on Nantucket. Activity is heating up: painters all over town, landscapers starting Spring Clean Up, homes getting ready for a busy summer.
First Quarter Real Estate results are in. No surprise, the sales performance was lower than the same time frames last year. The inventory levels - not lack of interest - guaranteed these results. While transactions declined by (44.8%), dollar volume only declined by (24.8%), a reflection of the higher prices that the market commands.
As long as inventory levels remain low, we can expect the market rate to be significantly slower than in the prior two years. It will be difficult to match those exemplary results.
NANTUCKET BITS & PIECES
The generosity of heart, mind, spirit, and money on Nantucket is extraordinary. And one of the most generous people I know is Tom McCann. Tom uses his boundless energy, ingenuity, and enthusiasm to mobilize people for great causes. In this time of need in Ukraine, Tom used the group NANTUCKET CARES, originally founded to help hurricane victims in Puerto Rico, to bring some humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
He and a group of Nantucket residents—Jonathan Rodriguez, Kasia Chmielewska Rodriguez, Chris Yates, Kit Noble, along with the tireless Jacqui Colgan, Brian McKernan, and Yuliya Novak—traveled to Poland accompanied by supplies, stuffed animals, protein bars, and goodwill. Tom has been chronicling his travels on his Facebook page…this is certainly an extraordinary experience. There is a GO FUND ME page set up for donations and it has been busy. I am proud to say that J Pepper Frazier Company has made a sizable donation.
